1. Getting started

See real workflows in the How to use guide. Install SelectSight from the Chrome Web Store: choose “Add to Chrome” and confirm the installation. Open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin SelectSight to the toolbar for easy access. Reload the webpage you want to recognize after installation. Try it on a supported webpage; extensions cannot run on the Chrome Web Store itself.

  1. Images: open a supported webpage, hover over an image, and wait for its text to become selectable. Drag across the words you want, then press your usual copy shortcut.
  2. Paused videos: pause the video on a clear frame, hover over the picture, and select the detected text. Copy it before resuming or seeking, which invalidates the old frame’s result.
  3. Screenshot regions: open the extension popup and choose “Start screenshot,” or use the shortcut below. Drag to frame part of the visible page. After local recognition, the extension attempts to copy the result; you can review, edit, and copy it again.

The first recognition may take longer while the bundled engine initializes. Local recognition does not require an account or an internet connection once the extension and the content you want to recognize are available on your device.

Cloud recognition and sign-in

Open the extension popup and request a sign-in code for your email. Enter the six-digit code within ten minutes. Each verified email receives 10 free cloud credits once; reinstalling or using another device does not grant more.

Choose a cloud enhancement or structured export from the recognition result, or use “SelectSight: Recognize and export…” from an image’s context menu. Sign in if prompted, review the selected content and credit cost, then confirm. Only this explicit cloud workflow uploads content; hovering continues to use local OCR.

Local OCR is free. Cloud enhancement costs 0.5 credits per request; structured recognition, including structured export, costs 1 credit per request. These are fixed costs, not character-based charges. Copying or saving an existing result does not trigger another recognition charge. Pro costs $2.90 monthly or $29.90 yearly, billed annually, in USD. Both plans issue 300 credits monthly. Monthly credits do not roll over; annual balances can roll over up to 600. Start a subscription or open “Manage subscription” in the popup. Sign out at any time; local OCR remains available.

If no code arrives, check spam, verify the email address, and wait for the resend cooldown. If cloud recognition is unavailable, retain the local result and try again later. Failed model requests release their reserved credits. Contact support for unresolved billing or recognition problems.

2. Keyboard shortcuts

Default shortcuts
ActionmacOSWindows / Linux
Start screenshotCommand + Shift + ECtrl + Shift + Y
Backup screenshot shortcutCommand + Shift + .Ctrl + Shift + .
Copy selected textCommand + CCtrl + C
Cancel screenshot / close resultEscEsc

Chrome or another extension may reserve a shortcut. The SelectSight popup shows the actual registered shortcut. Use its shortcut settings button, or open chrome://extensions/shortcuts, to change the assignment.

3. If something is not working

No text appears

Confirm that automatic recognition is enabled and Chrome has allowed SelectSight on the current site. Reload the webpage after installing or reloading the extension. For a video, pause playback first. For small text or an unsupported surface, try “Start screenshot.”

Recognition is slow or inaccurate

Use a clear, stationary image or video frame. Enlarge small text and select a smaller region for a screenshot. Device performance, first-use initialization, image resolution, and layout all affect recognition time. Check names, numbers, punctuation, and other important text before using the result.

Copy did not work

Use the result panel’s copy control again. If the browser blocks clipboard access, select the editable text and use the normal copy shortcut. Some Chrome pages do not allow extensions to run.

Automatic recognition gets in the way

Turn off “Automatic recognition” in the popup for the current tab. Manual screenshot capture stays available. Independent maps, charts, and Canvas surfaces do not trigger automatic recognition.

4. Why the extension asks for access

Permissions support recognition on the page and writing the text you choose to copy. They do not authorize SelectSight to upload your content. See the Privacy Policy for how that content is handled.

Access to websites
Lets the extension detect supported images and paused videos, display selectable text, and capture visible page pixels for local recognition across the sites you use. Chrome lets you restrict this access.
Active tab
Supports access to the current page after you invoke an extension action, including screenshot capture.
Clipboard writing
Copies selected or recognized text. The extension does not read your existing clipboard.
Storage
Keeps local settings, sign-in tokens, upload consent, account information, and pending recognition tasks.
Offscreen processing
Runs the local recognition engine outside the popup so tasks can be coordinated in the background.
Context menus
Adds the image recognition and export command to the page context menu.
Alarms
Handles timeouts and cleanup for pending local recognition tasks.

5. Current limits

For other questions, contact j.ohnie@outlook.com. Support messages are handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Refunds and subscription cancellations

You may request a full refund within 14 days of your first purchase. Renewal payments are generally non-refundable; duplicate charges and service failures can be reviewed individually. See the Refund Policy for full details.

For help with a refund or cancellation, email j.ohnie@outlook.com with your purchase email, order or receipt ID, and purchase date. Cancelling stops future renewals; without a refund, access continues until the end of the paid period. Uninstalling the extension does not cancel a subscription.
